New Baker Tilly-presented award recognizes leaders making a lasting impact in faith-based finance.
MISSOURI CITY, Texas, and GREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 16, 2026 — Martus Solutions founder and Chair Emeritus Bill Cox was named the first recipient of the Servant Leader Award during a surprise presentation at the Faith-Based Finance Collaborative (FBFC) on October 14. Presented by Baker Tilly, the new award recognizes leaders whose work has made a significant and lasting difference in faith-based finance.
"Bill understands that strong financial leadership is ultimately about helping organizations steward their resources well and serve their missions more fully," said Sandy McClure, Sage Intacct Services NFP Vertical Lead at Baker Tilly. "For nearly two decades, he has paired that conviction with a practical understanding of what faith-based finance teams need. That combination of innovation, humility and service is what this award was created to celebrate, and we are honored to recognize Bill as the inaugural recipient."
Cox founded Martus in 2008 after a local church approached him for help finding a budgeting tool that would support both the accounting team and church leadership. At the time, few financial tools reflected the way nonprofits and faith-based organizations actually plan, collaborate and steward their resources.
What began as a practical answer for one church grew into a software solution that now supports more than 1,300 organizations worldwide, including churches, denominations, Catholic dioceses and faith-based nonprofits. Over the past three years, Martus has grown rapidly as more nonprofit and faith-based organizations seek a collaborative alternative to spreadsheet-based budgeting and reporting.
“I’m honored and humbled to receive Baker Tilly’s inaugural Servant Leader Award at the 2026 Faith-Based Finance Collaborative. This one means a lot because Martus was created to help churches and faith-based organizations make the most of their resources. Martus now also serves many other nonprofits, but serving those who serve others is still at the heart of what we do." said Cox.
In July 2026, Cox transitioned from CEO to Chair Emeritus as Taylor Macdonald stepped into the CEO role. The move marked a new chapter for Martus while keeping Cox connected to the company and the mission that inspired it.
Baker Tilly and Martus have built a close partnership grounded in a shared commitment to helping nonprofit and faith-based organizations strengthen financial stewardship. As a Martus value-added reseller, Baker Tilly pairs Martus' budgeting, forecasting and reporting solution with its consulting and technology expertise to help organizations improve financial visibility, collaboration and decision-making.
The recognition comes as Martus continues to deepen its work within the faith-based finance community. For the company, the honor celebrates both Cox's leadership and lasting impact and the finance professionals, ministry leaders and partners who have shaped Martus over nearly two decades.
Founded in 2008, Martus Solutions simplifies budgeting, forecasting and reporting for more than 1,400 mission-driven organizations worldwide. Martus integrates with nearly all ERP and accounting systems, including Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Blackbaud and Microsoft Business Central. For more information, visit martussolutions.com.
